Fethiye, which is one of the oldest centres of population in the Lycian Gulf, is founded within a natural bay on the south west of Turkey. The history of Fethiye goes beyond the 5th century B.C. when at that time the town was known Telmessos (the country of light). Telmessos now known as Fethiye was a crowded and busy port of the Lycian Federation being at a distance of 67 kms from the capital, of Xanthos. At the centre there is featured a huge amphitheatre together with numerous Lycian tombs. Around which were several temples, dedicated to Apollo, Leto and Artemis and, now take pride of place. Following on from the Lycian Federation, Telmessos came under the control of the Byzantium Empire, after which followed the Menteseogullari Seigniory and the Ottoman Empire respectively. Telmessos, previously known as "Megri" in Ottoman times, was finally named Fethiye in 1934 in the memory of Fethi Bey, one of the first Turkish pilots.
Today Fethiye finds itself at the centre of most developed of the Turkish touristic regions on the Aegean coast. Marmaris and Bodrum one side of the Fethiye and Antalya and Alanya the other. Taking everything into account, its unique natural habitat and weather together with its beautiful gulf and numerous bays; this resort area of Fethiye should be much higher on the holiday makers' priority list. However, with the completion of the Gocek tunnel in 2006, the transit between these popular areas has improved dramatically and has accelerated tourism to Fethiye area.
We are the ones who do not support all-inclusive accommodation. We position our hotel as a comfortable resting place for our guests exploring the region Fethiye knowing the history and natural beauty of the amazing places nearby.
Fethiye is waiting for you!
Calis is a resort district and beach in Fethiye that is considered one of the best ecological beaches in Turkey. The village of Kayakoy in Turkey stretches along the hillside not far from the ruins of Lycian city Karmylassos in 7 km from Fethiye. So what is Kayakoy history? In the XVIII century Greeks arrived here from Dodecanese Islands and founded a town here , it’s name was Levissi. In this quite a large town with about 3,500 homes the Greeks lived for centuries. In 1923 when the city had about 6,000 Greeks the "population exchange" was started between Greece and Turkey the Greeks were forced to leave the town. Kaykoy GHost Town was recognized as one of the World TOP 10 Ghost Towns according to National Geographic - a world leader in geography, cartography and exploration.
After the departure of the Greeks the Levissi city was renamed in a Kayakoy by name of a nearby valley - Kaya Cukuru (pothole from Turkish) and vacant houses were populated with Muslims that came from Macedonia. However the Macedonians did not like Kayakoy and they left the village - Kayakoy village became the largest abandoned settlement of Asia Minor and it is called Kayakoy Ghost Town or Kayakoy Ghost Village.
Now Kayakoy Ghost Town in Turkey is open-air museum with 3.5 thousand preserved houses and three churches. The largest of them is the Basilica of Panayia Pyrgiotissa (has been built in 1888) is located on the right of the main street – it is really difficult to pass by this impressive building in the Gothic style. It takes your breath away when you come inside and see nobody but the bare walls.

Butterfly Valley is one of the most attractive places in the surroundings of Fethiye. In 1995 the valley was declared as nature reserve and is completely closed for construction. Butterfly Valley in Oludeniz (Kelebekler Vadisi in Turkish) is one of the most magical and beautiful bays of Turkey. It is located on the western coast of the Gulf of Belceiz close to Oludeniz and you can get there by boat only.
Its romantic name the valley got due to the extraordinarily beautiful tiger butterfly of the «Arctiidae» family. Most of tiger butterflies can be seen in early June. Colonies of these fascinating moths are flitting in a protected valley until late October. Almost all species of butterflies that live on the coast of the Mediterranean Sea can be found in the Butterfly Valley in Fethiye Turkey.
